Utah quarterback Cam Rising is set to make his return this Saturday against Oklahoma State, according to Utes receiver Dorian Singer. Rising, who missed last week’s game due to a hand injury sustained after colliding with a water cooler during the Week 2 match against Baylor, will be a significant boost for Utah as they prepare for a top-15 showdown with the Cowboys.
Singer confirmed Rising’s availability on Monday, and local beat reporter Josh Furlong shared the news via X. Rising, who dressed and warmed up for last week’s game against Utah State, could have played if needed, but the extra week of recovery will likely ensure he’s back to full fitness.
In Rising’s absence, freshman Issaac Wilson started and led the Utes to a 38-21 victory over Utah State, throwing for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson will revert to the backup role as Rising takes the reins for the matchup against Oklahoma State.
Rising, now in his sixth season of college football, previously missed the entire 2023 season due to an ACL injury. He was instrumental in Utah’s back-to-back Pac-12 Championships in 2021 and 2022, accumulating 5,527 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions over those two seasons. This year, he’s been a key player for Utah, which is now competing in the Big 12 for the first time.
The upcoming game against Oklahoma State is crucial for both teams. The Cowboys, who finished as runners-up in the Big 12 last season, will be a formidable opponent. This will be just the second meeting between the two teams, with their first encounter dating back to 1945.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Saturday in Stillwater, and Rising’s return is expected to be a game-changer for the Utes as they look to solidify their position in the conference.
