A’ja Wilson Set to Return for Las Vegas Aces Against Indiana Fever After Injury Scare

A'ja Wilson

With less than two weeks left in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Las Vegas Aces are poised to get their MVP back on the court. After missing Sunday’s game against the New York Liberty due to an ankle injury, A’ja Wilson is expected to return for tonight’s matchup against the Indiana Fever. This news brings a sigh of relief for Aces fans who feared the worst after seeing Wilson in a boot last weekend.

Wilson, who injured her ankle during the Aces’ 72-67 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday, missed her first game in over five years. However, head coach Becky Hammon assured fans that the boot was merely a precautionary measure, and Wilson could be back in action for tonight’s game against Indiana.

The Importance of Wilson’s Return

As the Aces have dealt with a few rough patches this season, Wilson’s presence on the floor has been crucial. Averaging an MVP-worthy 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 2.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, her performance is vital as the team prepares for the postseason. Without her, the Aces would face significant challenges in maintaining their top form.

Fortunately for Las Vegas, Wilson isn’t listed on the injury report ahead of tonight’s game, indicating that she’s ready to return to the lineup.

Chasing a Record

In addition to helping her team lock in a strong finish to the regular season, Wilson is on the verge of making history. She needs just 11 points to break the WNBA’s single-season scoring record. Currently sitting at 929 points this season, Wilson is expected to surpass Seattle Storm’s Jewell Loyd, who set the record at 939 points last year. Given her scoring average, there’s a high chance Wilson will claim the title in tonight’s contest.

Aces’ Remaining Regular-Season Games

Las Vegas, already secured a spot in the playoffs and eyeing a third consecutive championship, faces the Fever twice this week before finishing the season against the Sun, Storm, and Wings. Their path to another title is clear, but Wilson’s health will be key as they look to solidify their playoff positioning.
